Shell Castings of a Rock face a thin project by BB

A couple of years ago i did some rock face castings but found them a little on the thick side, and so therefore hard to work with. Now and again since then i have been rethinking upon this subject, because i want to produce cheap rock faces on the thin side and them being
3-5mm thick is my aim. This will make it a lot easier to break pieces up while modelling in order to go with the flow of reshaping where it is felt necessary. i set upon an idea that would include 9 heaped Table Spoonfuls of Plaster of Paris,3 small Yogurt pots  each filled with water tipped in from two measurements from their small cup section.A  stretch of Cooking Foil was extended and this was loosely  crumpled up in shape hopefully creating what i needed, but it was trial and error. Lumps of coal one could buy years ago are now a distant thing of the past, but would be perfect once washed, then dry brushed with paint.  Or used for patterns for making rubber moulds.
Rubber Latex Moulds are very expensive but produce great castings, but i grudge paying out good money on something i would only use on a small scale. If one is modelling part of the Grand Canyon they would be a good investment, but i aint.

3 Spoonfuls of Plaster of Paris into each and just mixed up with a large cheap brush.
The trick is not to lump it on in one big pour, but gradually as described below.

I painted the first layer on and left it to go off and harden.
Then did the same with another two layers.
The other castings are for Sci Fi & Fantasy projects.

The shinny stuff pealed off Perfectly.
This piece measures just over 1 Foot by 9 inches ,and cost only a few pennies to produce.
In a couple of days it will be very light and perfect for sticking into place on the canal project with Silicone Sealant.

                                                                    Job Done.
                                                      Its playful Beano Boy Fun!

Yes very thin, and very very cheap. For a first attempt i am pleased, but like when at school,on the report card,"Could Do Better i think applies."

i re-used the metal foil and the second one is nearing its finish too,and each one is unique.
i wonder if my rock climbers will like scaling these rock faces.
Ones own imagination can easily come into play but do remember not to over crimp it because you`ll end up trying to pic shinny stuff out of the rock in places like those old 49` ers    BB

The Update

The 2nd Casting Using The Same Foil

Yah! i`m well pleased and both Shell Castings are 3mm Thick.

Thanks 4 Looking BB

Eye Was Hopping in the Garden ______ by BB

It must be mentioned to those that do not know of me,that many of my tales concern using toys as props, and this is one of them.   It`s  not Star Wars, but there is a rather Big Bang!

Concerning Eye ,i first wrote of  it in November 2015,in a Fantasy Sci-Fi story of creation.  It came about because, Mrs B,on her dog walk upon that frosty cold morning found it and brought it home. Toys are often found abandoned in this way usually thrown from cars, after the remains of a big mac has been consumed.    Although this is not one of those. Saint Faiths Road is daily littered in such a thoughtless way.  Often is the case we clear this up ourselves because it gets blown against the     old medieval hedgerow in such a tangled mess. The hedgerow boarders three of our tiny  gardens in which we take pride in,so we detest a build up of thrown away rubbish.
                                                  Toys Found
Such toys often found in this way end up washed and added to a stash in a large toy box .The contents of which younger children  play with added interest whenever they visit us here at Fiddle Wood.
1

THE BEGINNING

Eye Was Hopping in the Garden, and it had a slight but most energetic spring to its leap.
A leap that is and was and still is highly motivated indeed in its constant spring.

Imagine the happy sound of Eye humming its favourite magical tune as it hops along.
A peaceful tune only it would hear in its hum-full program ,  for it has not even one single ear. In fact it was always humming when working, when resting, and even when taking forty winks while from afar important downloads were being placed upon its database.
As files were opened up in such a downfall of static,it continued to hum along in its pleasant playful tune. Long-ago it had been turned out from a far greater imagination and yes indeed Eye,was something special, although the total understanding  of special it had no conception of ,or would understand its true meaning. In fact it never thought of such a thing then.

                                                                       Revealed

It had been the case after large explosive rumblings that Eye, had been beamed down to the planet TALF`ELBAT to plant and maintain the garden there. Of course it is,or was no normal garden, but one that would spread out in all directions, upon root, high flying seed and especially upon Eye`s tuneful cuttings. For Eye it is,or was a lonely place, but gradually since its arrival it was one that had brightend up for the great expectations of other lifeforms.

However looking to the vastness of the heavens at night Eye, had many a static tear fall as it remembered the bright tiny star it had come from ,which lay floating upon gravity way past the Belt of Orion`s Constellation.
It seems imagination and that first spark of emotion had come at long last into play upon its mainframe computer and with it a clear sight of its task now complete.

What is Eye? What does it look like?

How long had Eye, been there on  TALF`ELBAT ? _____EON`s!

In the end, Eye realised along with others of its kind, that they had been created to help seed the ever expanding universe.

Here is the twist in such a tale as this.
It might be the case a simple smile might welcome this little fellow to the toy box.

Or indeed in other cases Not.

Where is Eye now?______ Taking a well earnt rest in the Toy Box.but its still humming!  BB

The Model Railway __________ Presented by Mrs B & BB

Under-laying The Track

Mrs B,as ever helpful to me dobbed on the waterproof p v a glue, and i fixed every piece in place on the 30 meters of rail-track. Eight and a half hours work for us spread over a period of 4 days. You youngsters out there could have blitzed it all in one day,and in a lot less time. However it is the  pathway of doing that is all important not the quickness of share speed and pace. Yes daily life can be filled up much more slower with the advent of such intrepid adventures.

Working Together with Banter and Lots of Fun.

i found it easier  to stand the rail-track on its side and wriggle the sleepers into the allotted space in the foam and just flip it over into place and press it down.    With this glue you have time enough to move the track about, whereas contact glue in my case would have resulted in torn bits of  underlay everywhere and myself with much less hair due to the fact of me  a pulling it out in utter frustration.

Although very expensive at nearly £23.00 a box of 5 meters i  can highly recommend this product.

Doing the curves is a bit more awkward but soon mastered, and if i can do it being all fingers and thumbs anyone can do better.

Having seen first hand now what we want to achieve in the way of shape to the rail-track and with trains having been run favourably upon it,it is time now to go to another phase of construction.

                                                       Landscaping This large Base.

i have never ever tried this before.

                   50mm T & G  Polystyrene Cavity Wall Insulation Boards 2100 X 450 mm.

With the ballasted underlay work now complete, and with a new design in direction for the Honey Well track it was decided to buy the Polystyrene boards in order to build up certain levels  on the layout itself.  So each individual circuit of track will be separated ,and neatly stacked aside so this work can be carried out and this will be easy to do because the underlay is stuck onto each piece of track making this quick break down operation possible. With having lots of spare track and foam underlay slight changes can be easily made like cutting in railway sidings leading to engine sheds and water towers that are already made.
With the polystyrene being delivered sometime on Tuesday i will have a couple of days doing other stuff._________________Yip, Never a Dull Moment! BB

                                                                          UPDATE

THE POLYSTYRENE BASE IS LAID & TRACK ADDED

As the invisible man it might seem i had not much input or help in this brave endeavour, but it was a jumbled up team effort at first then it all fell into place with that horrid scraping screeching sound of Polystyrene insulation boards.

Mrs B, Shuffled well the light Polystyrene boards together and they slotted into one another just fine.

The completed rail track was left lay on the M D F Boards and covered over. This  meant when the pattern had run its course the thing could be simple dismantled and the Polystyrene boards  slipped back into place underneath the rails. It was simple to do as each new rail section of track could come apart when it needed to.

We only needed to cut a couple of Polystyrene boards, and i used  the a Vax  Machine to hover up those tiny pieces of static as each cut was made. So the entire method might seem quite quick but it took two and a half hours before the boards were all down interlocking tight to each other.

The job of lifting boards and raising rail track was well underway by the time this photo shot was        taken ,and with a few boards at a time shuffled aside , they each were then slipped under  each rail track in turn to interlock together once more and the entire three rail track system was  quickly well in place again. Magic!
My scratch built girder bridge i made with paper card was added for interest upon this speckled snowy scene, and the lines were activated to live and the first trains ran to test the circuits.

Finally this long expanse  stretched out before us, and i wonder what adventures will playout here in much later days as design patterns of scratch building slightly take a change to add that certain interest to visiting eyes viewing it for the first time.

The planed canal will be moved elsewhere  in a much longer stretch and will actually pass through Honey Well itself, but the tunnels will  still be stationed against walls with the waterway seemingly passing through them.  So more narrow boats are planed for the canal that will be cut into this Polystyrene Base, and could be three times longer than the original one planed.

The temporary railway tunnel entrances will be replaced.

With this last shot,it was our joint effort that made everything possible.

New bridges, trees, and quirky features will slowly be added. Street Plans will be laid out and the scratch builds of bygone years  will be set firmly established upon their foundations.

The Tiny Raised Garden Presented by Beano Boy

Mrs B,has a real gift of green fingers for whatever she plants out, and all the plants seem to multiply and thrive and look good from one year to the next. This raised garden lay desert-like for 15 years and looked a sorry state when viewed from our kitchen window.
You see,it belongs to our next door neighbour's who in spite of being well educated individuals and both maths teachers, they had no clues in which to add up in their minds eye where this desolate spot was concerned.  That is until 3 years ago when Mrs B,offered to give this untidy lot a real good dusting of perennial plants  and spring bulbs, and at no charge. The thing is year by year we give masses of plants away because they flourish so well in our tiny gardens surrounding our house. "Yes please ",was the applied mathematics from our young neighbour's, in connection to the offer of help, and so Mrs B,set to with our gardening tools ,and then did the simple planting out in one nice sunny afternoon. About 3 hours work.  i took these shots today from an upper window in our house, and i hope you like the tiny raised garden Mrs B, kindly planted out and maintains from one year to the next?

Some might wonder why do such a thing for free, but you see we benefit greatly too because we would sooner look out of our window at this pleasant sight rather than the sun dried bleached desert it used to be. Yes Mrs B,certainly has the rare gift of applying logic along with having green fingers.
                                                                         BB

                                                           A Little Bit Extra.

i was just checking the Mail Box,and looking around when i saw George Senior in the garden.

He is come rain or shine ,snow or hale stones, about the tiny place that fronts well our door.

He seemed as if to make make mention of something,
and this thought just  sprang into view to add a sort of
        silly twist to this topic.

so out i went through the arbour and out into the concrete slab area that makes up in part the court yard where us Beano`s live.

We had thought it a crazy place to raise such a Standard as this here, that would have put even ancient Rome to shame, but the fitter said that this was the only spot to receive a signal.  i think the  twit should have been reported as being not up for such a task  that he had been employed to carry out. So as this was not the case he continued to plant such an eye saw  in plain sight even though we pointed out where a dish had been fixed before upon that very house.

So we look upon a colorful  raised bed,and an outlandish modern sculpture of perforated tin.

HONEY WELL RAILWAY STATION TAKE 2

Hi guys,i had to delete the first movie because the first copy was ruined by movie maker stabilisation which made it all wavy and quite unwatchable. So i will never use that aid function again.
i hope some will like the little people dotted in and about this place.

Here Are Some Stills
Well a Lot of E`m  Really.

Showing the upside down view of the Station, and it looks rough-shod true but it is very strong.

All Scratch Built With Paper Card & P V A Glue

                                                                off to school

These were once boys, and the legs were shaved down to form legs. Paper pleated into dresses were stuck in place, and school bags made from paper was added to each school girl. finely the hat was formed by p v a glue, first a circle was  made around each head, and when dry the top was formed, then the glue was used to raise detail to all the paper parts and  each model figure was left to dryout. The painting followed later.

The Railway Houses

The drain pipe broke off,i will fix that later.

The lean-to roof with figures sure lifts this side each house.

Showing the garden area. Once again the figures set the scene.

The idea was to model this place from my own fancy, but give it a sense of real purpose in spite of it being toy-like in nature on view.

So with each end building shuffled into place. The main building can be examined crafty like

The Front Canopy over the Victorian Entrance
The Toilet & Waiting Room can be seen on the right.

The Ticket Office can be slightly viewed on the left just inside the entrance. Back in the day everyone had to buy a ticket for the train and even a platform ticket for those not travelling.

Showing the sections modeled and dotted well with tiny HO OO scale figures, that make up the large paper card base which was scribed out using an empty pen,and then painted in black emulsion ,and dry brushed with white emulsion paint very lightly. So it gave the grey look i was wanting. The plan is to model tiny flower beds in each garden later to add that hint of green and colour.

Each wall make up each individual side garden.

A pointed conversation perhaps a peaceful but heated argument is taking place as they stand upon the step.

Having massed uniform colors works really well by having school uniforms on display and the great thing is they do not look out of place in this type of setting.

The Railway Porters, upon the platform, and this center section was scribed out much more fully because this forms the walkway entrance to where the tickets are bought and then lead onto the crowded platform.

Not shown on the video, were the cast iron supports fashioned  on early Victorian ones seen in photo`s. Every one of them cut paper card and painted with a shiny semi-matt paint. This makes the paper tougher then any off the peg plastic.

I opted  for a near flat roof with just a tiny sloop to all the canopies made in this way so filming and photo shoots would be made much more easy`er.

Cross legged  sitting, and the guy eating a jam butty were made of wire and p v a glue. yes i sculpt with a tiny brush and glue i guess it be down to the Beano Boy constantly upon the move inside my head.

Real newspapers shrunk down in size by a printer were added to AIRFIX Figures by way of a simple cut into each hand and then glued into place, giving a good look to these old but very useful figures.

A tense few moments before the Train is due to arrive.

The working end of the Station.

Showing the new track with fitted stone foam underlay. Mrs B, applied p v a glue onto the underside of each railway sleeper, and i jiffy`ed each piece of track in place.Easy Peasy, because of our light hearted-teamwork coupled well with lots of giggling fun. Priceless Magic Banter!

The children meeting up at the Station. The Dowson School,is about 2 miles up the track. Yes this old Victorian place is filling up.

The street view with the double sided  stone steps resting well upon the little pathway.

Honey Well Station viewed from a Balloon

AND NOW AN ADD ON

                                                                                                   ?     16-5-1955
HONEY WELL EVENING NEWS                    page 1

It was reported that the Great Western Train arrived well on time and this was due mainly upon the fact that a complete overhaul of engine had been made and new tracks had been laid. The public exclaimed that finely the lines had been repaired and that the early morning train whistle was a very welcome sound to all Honey Well residents.

The school children were over the moon, because they no longer needed to walk to Wensum High School two miles away by rail, but 3 miles by roadway, track  and wooded lane. Extra coaches had been added on because many had wished to be some of the first along the new lines,a spokesman said as he too waited briefcase and watch in hand upon this rather busy little Stations platform.

This is the Locomotive that i striped completely down, put in new carbon brushes, solded up here and there, and applied oil and it is as good as new. They certainly built good toys back in the day. Unlike the Chinese rubbish churned out today.

The unique carriages re-fitted out with steel rimmed wheels glide along upon their first journey upon the Honey Well Line.

As the Great Western leaves i wish to thank you all for looking at all the pictures and reading all the words that describes best as i can the workings of this tiny place.
