The Archway of Library Books Presented by BB

i realised yes it is true that to link up my book cases i would need archways leading through them,however i had never attempted upon how to do such an unusual thing. My O My! i thought out a loud to myself .Well you see there was no other with me upon such an endevour as the one that was about to roll out before me.

First a quick look at the library of books on display.

The little loose individual books are all wedged in tight into each bookshelf.

Drop them or tip them over and ping they will all fly out, then the extraordinary game play starts again. What game is that? Alice, might well ask? Why it is the artful game of replacing all those loose books.

The tiny Library did so grow in volume over 7 months of work, first i made over 8,000 books then i made the book shelves. There is however only a fraction of it shown above. Now moving onwards i want arches to create look through avenues which will be a great adventure into more scratch building ways, because such things are not run of the mill ,familiar to me .

Wide open book covers printed out did fold up nicely around paper card. 

                                 What takes lots of time is cutting out the paper card. 

    i needed to cut out planks and scribe them using an empty Bic Pen. 

    A full one will do,but do use a black Bic Pen. 

   After all blue might well show through when painted; been there and done that.

Of course paper plain and boring can be painted, 

but adding character in a few seconds does so improve the look of them;

and in fact does actually make the paper planks stronger after painting each and every one.

i do not do perfect but abstract is the eyes keenest way to view them with a smile,

rather than a big gormless frown! 

The thought to link each run of book cases with entry ways for tiny feet to quietly pace about the place came to me when i remembered my old school library, which at eight years old was a most daunting sight indeed for little me.

           Both sides need a doing because there are no thoughtless short cuts here. 

           For it would be awfully stared at as little people walked around the corner.

The four taller arches above will have two extra shelves ,which will be piled high in volumes of books of far away magic adventures. i left the guide lines easy for myself to view, because my eye sight is getting rather dim in my dotage of 72 years.

Upper deck corner brackets will serve to help form each one in a special curved rounded way ,

well after they've been cut out you see?

                Ornate open book covers were fished out from the internet and printed out.

                                               Things to come are always stacking up.

                                      

     

All parts were left to dry off a little then stuck into place on a sheet of paper card,

and this process stops the cut-out's sliding about when...

The heavy books were laid upon them and it being rather late in the day,

i left them overnight to dry out flat with not one bend in any of them later.

                                                                                             

          

                                 Teems of flip over book covers were trolled from the internet sea.

I began to paint the planks as well as the larger parts,

 and all needed a second and third coat of the cheapest acrylic paint.

And so it was that i plodded onwards in my relaxing hobby style work. 

Scratch-building is making do with what you have and in this wide open to view topic,

 there are none of these in the high street of off the peg stock.

i never sell, i do however show the way.

And so the mainframe work began

                                        The two curved side brackets fitted into place well.

A little bow in one shelf would need straightning later, but aside from that the cutting and piecing together of parts went well, a bit of a fiddle for me with P T S D to carry out,but this hobby and its enjoyment that it brings far outweigh  my shaking disorder. And Sir Percy and Housekeeper Miss Stella Inkwell look kind of pleased for the first arched over attempt.

                          Now the paintwork around the shelves needed carrying out.

                            Turned around reveals the other side that needs construction.

                                                       Yes very much so,and so is BB.

The construction had begun on the other side...but time out to show more of the golden age of classic children's books for my library is to be so diverse that many of them have earned their right to be highly included here within it.

                              So lots of special sparkling books need lots of space to pile up upon.

                    And so it was the time arrived to playfully do the other side of the arch.

This time though I used the oblong plastic case my craft knives came in to help keep everything square upright and true.

The little plastic case could also be stood up and therefore was found to be a free neat tool to emply.

i supposed upon reflection that a LEGO Brick would also do for providing a neat needed square supportive aid.  

                                            The little brackets were stuck into place.

The Brackets were stuck into place either side of this  walk through double sided bookcase.

                            Two scribed out paper card pieces will form the curve in the top.

The edges were trimmed off  sloping each one.

After using the sharp pointed blade i removed it in order to use metal handle safely.

Rolled on the Craft-Knife Handle to form a curve.

                            All glued into place painting three layers came next.

And as you can see hopefully with an eye of curiosity the first sample of the smaller archway has giving small people time enough to walk around and ponder a while before taking a gander on the other side. 

So this was the way i used to create the cheapest double sided archway of books.

Books by the pleantiful are still ongoing and most have been made from leftover paper card,so no real cost is involved.

A metal rod will be afixed onto each tall book stand and this is where the ladder will rest  that gives access to all full to the brim levels.

Showing where it will go,after some metal support brackets have been made. They being just another highlight to this little abstract thing.
